Book Reviews

  1. Ramona Hamilton

As one who reads God's word daily, the devotional scriptures and comments by Mr. Kostrzebski in No One Is Fatherless brought peace and comfort as well as truth of everyday applications. His life experiences while sharing what God says is, as far as I am concerned, the only way to start the day. Combined with the Bible, his devotional, No One Is Fatherless, should be a must read for everyone. You can't go wrong starting your day in a positive way.
  2. Dan Sicard

Great devotional! I'm working my way through it now. I love Dan’s thoughts on the verses he has chosen daily. His perspective is from a military and father's point of view. A great mix! The devotions are short and thought provoking. A great way to start the day!

This is a great daily devotional. It applies to real life and reminds me that we are never alone. God is always with us no matter how alone we may feel. It is a true blessing to study this daily.

I love reading Dan's book. There are days that I'm struggling with something and can pick up Dan's book to read the devotion for that specific day and it's exactly what I need to get through the day.

Wow. I love beginning each day by reading this devotion. It is always thought-provoking and very applicable to our everyday issues. Thank you Dan and everyone involved with providing a great tool that prepares us for the chaos this world surrounds us with. It reminds me daily that we are not alone in our trials but God's grace is sufficient. What a blessing.

Dan did a great job reflecting his military and life experiences to God's purpose and plans for his life. God has enabled him to capture this in No One Is Fatherless to show us how God is always working, never leaves us nor forsakes us, and always has the best in store for us. Knowing Dan personally, I can attest that he lives out what he shares. I encourage everyone to get this book and use it along side of your daily Scripture reading and prayer time. You will not be disappointed!

This is a truly inspirational, heartwarming book that brings the scriptures to everyday life. Dan masterfully matched the scriptures to experiences from his life many of which I can relate to directly. I read this book each morning before I start my day. This book makes a great gift for anyone needing spiritual growth or someone that needs to refresh their faith in God.

Dan signed a book with a personal note to my son-in-law Tim - a fellow US Army Ranger. I can’t wait to get it to Tim! I have a connection to Dan and his folks from our hometown of Perry, NY. Rangers are tough, manly men who can still believe in God and live out His life for them! No One Is Fatherless is full of beautiful reflections!
  10. Doug DeGroff

My wife and I are thoroughly enjoying this daily devotional! I find it encouraging, easy to understand, and meaningful!

I can’t wait to spend the next year reading No One Is Fatherless. Dan is real and relatable!! I love the daily Bible verses and Dan’s life experiences that bring the verses to present day. Waiting to see how God continues to use Dan, Carol, and their family for His service.

I am enjoying "No One Is Fatherless" and would recommend it as a great way to either start or end your day. I feel that my faith in God is solid, but I have never actually read the Bible -- this has been a great way for me to take that next step. I appreciate the thoughtfulness in each summary and look forward to picking it up every night. I will definitely be sharing this book with my children.

About the Author

Daniel R. Kostrzebski was born and raised in rural western New York State. The most popular fact about that quiet county is that it has more registered Holsteins than registered voters. The eldest of five children, Dan learned the value of hard work on his family’s small farm. They were taught respect for all in their community, both young and old. Schedules were set by the rising and setting of the sun and dinner bells. His humble, small-town beginnings blossomed into a noteworthy 40 years of military and government service.

While serving in the U.S. Army at satellite locations worldwide, he earned an associate’s degree, a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration, and a Master of Science in Health Services Administration.

While working his way up the enlisted ranks, Dan served in various Military Occupational Skills, including Military Police, Ordinance, and Special Operations, finishing his military career with the infamous 5th Special Forces Group. His extensive training included Airborne School, Pathfinder School, Air Assault School, Ranger School, and Combat Diver School, while attaining professional qualifications as an Army Jumpmaster and Dive Master. Dan’s service in Special Operations took him to the Middle East and East Africa, along with numerous military exercises throughout the U.S.

Dan has a special affinity for the superhero Aquaman, as water operations have been among his favorite tasks. To him, jumping from a plane into the open water is a rush like no other. After retiring from the U.S. Army in 2003, he served as a Federal Air Marshall and with local law enforcement for a few years until taking a job with a defense contractor, where he continues to serve our country.

"Live in such a way that those who know you but do not know God will come to know God because they know you."

Foreword

My brother Albert and I have had the honor to know Dan for many years. He and I connected through music as high school bandmates — Dan on piano and me on tuba and bass trombone. Al and Dan met in elementary school, graduated high school together in 1981, and remain friends to this day. According to Al, Dan was best known as a good guy with a one-of-a-kind machine-gun laugh that would erupt without warning. Dan was a highly valued team player in sports and well-liked by everyone. We both considered Dan to be one of those special people you never forget.

When my life hit a rough patch a little over ten years ago, I reconnected with Dan. I learned that Dan would reach out to God for guidance and often found that His timing was perfect. Dan was a great source of support during this trying time, and we connected regularly by phone. Over the course of numerous calls, I learned more about his Special Ops service. I was so moved by his amazing stories, I told him, “Dan, we need to tell your story!” His immediate response was to share his story as a witness for God’s glory! Dan wanted to share his testimony of God’s grace upon his family and his life. It’s a story about a soldier, his faith, and how that faith grew in confidence when he did what God guided him to do.

Several years had passed, and while I all but forgot about that conversation, Dan was keeping to his faith in daily devotionals to his family and others shared here in this book. He continues this practice today. Through this daily devotional, Dan shares his life stories — both personal and military. He talks of triumphs over adversity, the consequences of his own life choices, and how through the grace of God he’s been reunited with his entire family. He’s cultivated a unique connection with them through sharing a daily Bible verse coupled with his own hard-earned wisdom.

Thanks for taking this journey with us. Enjoy Opa Dan’s two cents!
